Location: Kokomo
Position Description: Tool – Process Engineer (Casting)
Responsible for complete part process and development including: quality, tooling, equipment purchase & installation, error & mistake proofing, part tracking, part follow up, project management, etc.
Including but not limited to:
- Determine the complete tooling requirements to produce a world class manufactured part, including costs estimates, and vendor quotations.
- Responsible for procuring all required tooling and equipment.
- Specify the type and quantity of machine required for each operation, required tooling, fixtures, and gauges.
- Determine the proper takt time and the number of pieces per hour that can be produced. Aid in design of special tools, and work with responsible parties for equipment arrangement and installation. Manage engineering changes for production parts after launch.
- Provide Time Studies with information needed for labor cost estimates and provide planning with information regarding starting dates and changeover dates and production capacity.
- Investigate customer and production suggestions/ issues and work with team leaders to support production and make improvements.
- Keep informed on the latest methods of manufacturing and improved machinery design.
- Continuous quality improvements using Kaizens and other quality improvement tools.
- The term "tool/s" includes patterns, dies, jigs, fixtures, machine tools or special equipment.
- Engage in the initial phases of engineering to determine the complete machine and tooling required for complex or comprehensive operations on production parts and assemblies.
- Perform general duties described for process engineers, including the completion of complex and comprehensive projects.
- Work with a minimum of instruction and definition.
- Must be able to lead the whole process of:
- Part design conducive to high pressure die casting
- Effectively communicate in simultaneous engineering meetings
- Complete tool design and build, part process development, up through and including PSO completion
- Complete process development and implementation
- Cell design / layout
- All part quality initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Technical Field Required
- High Pressure Die Cast Experience
- Proficient in all MS Office Products
Preferred Qualifications:
- Electrical/Mechanical Engineering degrees highly preferred.
- Previous experience working in Union environment
- Strong Background in Lean Manufacturing
- Transmission Machining / Assembly experience
Other Requirements:
- Available to work any shift
